Azeroth is set in a world far different from our own, where cars and television don't exsist. Where electricity is just starting to be used, though, in a way far different than we do now. In the year 403, under the reign of Drydas, mechanical suits of armor controlled by people begun to surface. Not only Mechs, as they have come to be known, but Guns also. A source of mass destruction and anarchy, these guns and mechs resulted in war across the entire planet. Hundreds of thousands of lives lost due to people craving power, seeking to take over Azeroth, or atleast as much of it as possible. The wars raged on for 5 long years, the world ravaged, entire cities destroyed.
Various warmongers leading different factions in the wars slowly began to realize the devastation they had caused to the planet. Eventually after some months the wars subsided. Fully realizing they had all but destroyed their civilization, three of the leading factions, Imperial, Shadows, and the Knights of Order, sought to rebuild it. Now after 20 years of long, hard work in the year 428, the realm of Azeroth was restored to its former glory. Nearly everything was repaired, the people lived in harmony once more. The majority of the Realm now ruled by the three factions, they maintained peace across the land. But, as pennance for ravaging the land, monsters began appearing. Threatning their civilization. But, so far, protected by the Factions the people have been able to live in peace.
If anything, they were better off than they were before the wars. Electricity, from devices known as Orbments, powered house lights and street lamps. Life was good in the Realm, but little did it's people know something evil was arising..something far worse than The Great War as it had become to be known.
